StepInside exists to make unfamiliar places less stressful. Whether you experience social anxiety, sensory overwhelm, or just don’t like surprises—this app is for you.
I’m Nick. I wouldn’t say I’ve got bad anxiety these days, but I’ve definitely had moments where it’s got the better of me. I’ve walked into places, panicked because I didn’t know where to queue or what I was meant to do… and just turned around and left. It’s a horrible feeling—especially when you actually want to be there.
What bugs me is how many venues seem to assume you’ve been before. Nothing’s clearly signed, you can’t tell if it’s table service or not, and the toilets might as well be in Narnia. That kind of stuff adds unnecessary stress.
The real turning point was chatting to mates who seem super confident—and realising loads of them had the same anxieties. That’s what gave me the push to build StepInside. If it helps even one person feel a bit more comfortable walking through a door, that’s a win in my book.
I’m not a Silicon Valley startup. I’m a cable tech working full-time manual shifts, squeezing this project into evenings and weekends whenever I can. My background’s in computing, but I’ve been out of the game for a while—so now I’m diving back in, learning as I go, powered by passion and a lot of late-night Googling.
The info you see on StepInside isn’t scraped from some big database—it’s hand-gathered in the wild. I go to places, take notes, record the vibe. But it’s not just me. There are some brilliant people helping contribute data, and I’m genuinely grateful for every bit of it. This project only works because of that shared effort.
